It was created by the Royal Decree of June 8 during the reign of King John IV, known as “The Restorer,” the twenty-second King of Portugal, born in 1604 and reigning from 1640 until his death in 1656. His wife was Dona Luísa Francisca de Gusmão.

Unlisted Portuguese variant of Group 74 of João IV, distinguished by clearly visible erased “1642” die traces around the Cross of Saint George, providing strong evidence of die reuse. The die morphology suggests repurposing one of the dies from the 1642 Portuguese Two Gold Cruzados, the only coins from Portugal with this configuration. A unique specimen, currently the only one known with these features.

Gomes only appears J4.75.02 and J4.75.03. These are very rare coins to appear on the numismatic market. This coin is even rarer, and corresponds to the same mintage as the 2nd known coin belonging to the collection of the "Casa da Moeda Museum" of Portugal, with the reference MCM 13576. Portugal, anepigraphic silver vintém coin (20 réis) from the reign of King João V (1706–1750), corresponding to a rare variant featuring an armillary sphere between dots. This is the second example of this variant I am aware of, displaying atypical characteristics that distinguish it from others of the same type. Among the dots flanking the sphere, the one on the left is set apart, while the dot on the right is positioned closely against the sphere. The pearl crowning the top of the armillary sphere is surmounted by a prominent pointer aligned with the meridian. The equator appears incomplete, being visible only on the left side of the sphere, with no continuation to the right. The zodiac begins on the right, over the Tropic of Cancer, and ends on the left, over the Tropic of Capricorn. The armillary sphere is supported by a tripod base with a central orb. This variant is listed only in the most recent edition of the Alberto Gomes catalogue — 7th edition, 2021 — under code J5.41.02a, with the designation “Equador entre pontos” ("Equator between dots"). The obverse features a crown with four pearled arches, topped by a pearled cross and flanked by floral ornaments. On the crown’s diadem, there is a lozenge with a central dot. Below the mint mark appears a floral ornament separated by dots (•✤•). On the reverse, the legend begins with a floral ornament separated by small crosses (+✤+), and the rest of the inscription is divided by medium-sized floral ornaments with a central core. This coin is listed in the World Coins – Portugal catalog under KM#177. It was minted during the reign of King João V, known as “The Magnanimous,” the twenty-fifth King of Portugal. Born in 1689, João V reigned from 1706 until his death in 1750. He was married to Dona Maria Anna Josepha of Austria.

Portuguese silver coin of 12 Vinténs (240 Réis), dated 1707 and minted in Lisbon during the reign of D. João V. This specimen features a 4-arched crown with pendants (type 1) and a beaded cross, corresponding to the Alberto Gomes classification (J5.73.01) and World Coins Portugal KM#181.

It is a rare piece, with variants not yet fully studied in numismatic literature, and seldom found on the market, particularly in higher states of preservation.

Silver 640 Réis (2 Patacas) coin dated 1771, struck in .916 fine silver for circulation in colonial Brazil during the reign of King José I, known as “The Reformer”, the twenty‑sixth King of Portugal. Born in 1714, he ruled from 1750 to 1777, a period marked by major administrative and economic reforms led by the Marquis of Pombal. He was married to Queen Mariana Victoria of Bourbon.

This specimen belongs to the “SUBQ” variant, distinguished by the unusual placement of the dot above the letter “Q”, a feature considered scarce among the known sub‑variants of this issue. The obverse displays the crowned royal coat of arms, while the reverse features the armillary sphere over the Cross of the Order of Christ, following catalog references KM#193.2 and Gomes 53.02. The coin measures 37 mm in diameter and weighs 17.92 g, within the expected parameters for this colonial emission.

Unpublished variant, its most relevant singularities being the number "8" of the date rectified for misalignment, letters "P" and "N" of the legend and the top shield on the shield was rectified by the coin opener, high shield (⭥ 18 mm) attached to the legend in the exergue, top shield with 10 bezants and border in the highest lower part, high crown surmounted by a triumphant cross (♁ / ⊖), rare variant never before referenced or disclosed with this set of atypical characteristics.

In this example, the error made by the hubbing opener is perfectly visible, as he initially engraved the year "1810" in mirror image on the left of the shield and the face value "400" on the right, which after its rectification left details on the die that reveal this error in the coins minted.
