Coins from the 1st Dynasty - 1128 to 1383

The coins of the 1st Portuguese Dynasty (Afonsina Dynasty) cover the period between 1128 and 1383, corresponding to the formation and consolidation of the Kingdom of Portugal. Also known as the Burgundian Dynasty, it was the first royal house of Portugal, ruled by nine monarchs, four of whom were named Afonso. Beginning with the County of Portugal and becoming an autonomous kingdom between 1139 and 1143, this era marks the earliest Portuguese coinage, reflecting the political and economic identity of the emerging nation.
