Bulgaria Coins

The coins of Bulgaria reflect the country’s monetary development from the late 19th century onwards, marked by the introduction of the lev and its subdivisions, the stotinki. Early issues show strong European influence, with bronze, copper‑nickel and silver coins accompanying the formation of the modern Bulgarian state. Throughout the 20th century, the monetary system underwent several reforms, including periods of economic instability and design changes linked to political transitions. Modern issues, produced under the authority of the Bulgarian National Bank, highlight the adoption of contemporary alloys and the consolidation of the lev as a national symbol. Bulgarian numismatics is valued for its diversity of metals, iconography and historical periods.
