The Portuguese Discoveries Series in Silver PROOF represents one of the most prestigious numismatic programmes issued by the Portuguese Mint (INCM). Produced between 1987 and 2001, these special collector editions comprise forty‑four coins distributed across eleven thematic series, each consisting of four coins that chronologically depict the most significant episodes of the Portuguese Discoveries. All coins were struck in silver with PROOF finish, featuring frosted reliefs and mirror‑polished fields, and were released exclusively in official INCM cases or folders accompanied by certificates of authenticity. Although these series were also issued in cupronickel and other precious metals, this category includes only the Silver PROOF editions, intended for high‑quality numismatic collecting.
