1 Centavo Coins
The 1 Centavo coins were the lowest denomination of the Portuguese Republic, created by Law 679 of April 21, 1917 and withdrawn from circulation in 1927. Minted only in 1917, 1918, 1920, 1921 and 1922, they form the first bronze series of the Republic and reflect the economic transition of the post‑World War I period. The 1922 issue is considered the rarest coin of the Portuguese Republic, with very few known examples, making this denomination highly sought after by collectors.
