Commemorative 25 Escudos Coins (25$00)

The commemorative 25 Escudos coins comprise eight issues minted between 1977 and 1986, all struck in cupronickel and dedicated to cultural, historical and institutional themes of the Portuguese Republic. These issues include coins honouring Alexandre Herculano, FAO, the 1982 Roller Hockey World Championship, the International Year of Disabled Persons, the 25 April Revolution, the International Year of the Child 1979, Portugal in the EEC and King João I at the Cortes of Coimbra. These coins reflect the thematic variety and artistic evolution of commemorative minting by the Portuguese Mint during this period.
