25 Escudos Coins

The 25 Escudos coins of the Portuguese Republic were issued exclusively in copper‑nickel and correspond to a single circulating system produced between 1977 and 1986. This system includes two distinct module variants, each governed by its own legislation. The first variant, a smaller 26 mm module, was struck only in 1977 and 1978, created under Decree‑Law 847/76 of 15 December 1976 and Decree‑Law 534/77 of 30 December 1977, and withdrawn from circulation on 1 June 1983 under Decree‑Law 163/83 of 30 April 1983. The second variant, a larger 28.5 mm module, was issued from 1980 to 1986, created under Decree‑Law 519‑R/79 of 28 December 1979 and withdrawn on 1 July 1989 under Decree‑Law 134/89 of 27 April 1989. This category includes only the regular circulating 25 Escudos coins, distinct from the commemorative silver issues, which belong to the dedicated commemorative 25 Escudos series.
