Katanga – Banknotes

Katanga banknotes are among the most elusive and historically significant African issues, printed in 1960 by the renowned Swiss security printer Roto‑Sadag for the short‑lived State of Katanga. The collection presented here is exceptional: it includes unique printing proofs sourced directly from a Portuguese worker who lived in Switzerland and preserved experimental sheets produced inside the original printing facility. These pieces feature multi‑layer overprints, colour trials, matrix overlaps and technical test impressions so singular that PMG classified several as Ineligible Type, not due to authenticity concerns but because no references exist in the Krause World Paper Money. This is one of the most important private holdings of rare Katanga banknotes ever documented.
