Commemorative Coin Series (Escudo Coins)
The commemorative coin series of Portugal gather multi‑denomination issues created by the Portuguese Mint to celebrate a single theme, event or anniversary, produced throughout the twentieth century. These series include notable sets such as the 1960 silver issues dedicated to Prince Henry the Navigator, the 1977 series commemorating the 25 April Revolution, the cupronickel series of Alexandre Herculano and FAO, as well as thematic sets like the 1982 Roller Hockey World Championship and the 1983 XVII Exhibition silver series, among others. Each series comprises coins of different face values sharing a unified design and theme, allowing collectors to acquire the pieces individually or as complete sets. The popular eleven “Portuguese Discoveries” series, issued in the denominations of 100 and 200 Escudos, are not included here, as they are organized in their respective commemorative coin categories by denomination. This category presents exclusively the commemorative series issued with normal finish, providing a clear and accessible structure for all joint commemorative releases of Portuguese numismatics.
