10 Escudos Coins 1986–2001

he 10 Escudos coins from 1986 to 2001 correspond to the brass‑nickel system, the final circulating series of this denomination issued by the Portuguese Republic before the introduction of the Euro. They were minted in all years from 1986 to 2001, although the dates 1993, 1994 and 1995 were not struck for circulation and exist only in special BNC and PROOF issues included in annual collector sets. This series represents the last phase of Portugal’s Escudo currency, reflecting the late‑20th‑century numismatic design style and the gradual transition to more economical metallic compositions. The coins were created under Decree 293/86 of September 12th 1986 and were withdrawn from circulation on March 1st 2002 under Decree‑Law 117/2001 of April 17th 2001.
