The coins of the 3rd Portuguese Dynasty, known as the Philippine Dynasty or Habsburg Dynasty, correspond to the period of dynastic union between Portugal and Spain, during which the Spanish kings ruled both kingdoms simultaneously. The three monarchs of this dynasty, all from the House of Habsburg, governed Portugal between 1580 and 1640. The coinage of this era reflects Iberian administration, shared circulation and the political and economic changes that preceded the Restoration of Portuguese independence.
