The 5 Escudos coins from 1963 to 1986 represent the second series of this denomination issued during the Republican coinage of Portugal, struck in cupronickel and covering all years from 1963 to 1986. This series was created under Decree‑Law 45 129 of June 12th 1963 and was withdrawn from circulation on January 1st 1989 by Decree‑Law 427/88 of November 19th 1988.
