Hispano‑Arab Coins (Al‑Andalus)

Hispano‑Arab coins of Al‑Andalus comprise the monetary issues produced in the Iberian Peninsula under Islamic rule between the 8th and 15th centuries, reflecting the political, economic and cultural development of the Umayyad Emirate, the Caliphate of Córdoba and the Taifa kingdoms. These include gold dinars, silver dirhams and numerous copper issues featuring Kufic inscriptions, religious formulas, rulers’ names and references to major Andalusi cities. This coinage illustrates the fusion of Islamic tradition with the Iberian context and forms one of the most significant groups in medieval Hispanic numismatics.
