1 Escudo Coins 1986–2001
The 1 Escudo coins issued between 1986 and 2001 correspond to the small‑module brass‑nickel system created under Decree 293/86 of September 12, 1986, covering all dates from 1986 to 2001. This type succeeds the large‑module system of 1981–1986, sharing the date 1986 but differing in module and design, marking the updated standard adopted for the escudo in its final years. These coins remained in circulation until March 1, 2002, when they were withdrawn under Decree‑Law 117/2001 of April 17, 2001.
