The 50 Réis and 100 Réis coins of King Luís I (1861‑1889) represent the lower‑value silver issues of the period, minted in .916 fine silver under the monetary law of 1854. The 50 Réis, equivalent to the half tostão, were struck between 1862 and 1889, featuring a 15 mm module, 1.25 g weight, reeded edge and the obverse legend LUDOVICUS.I.PORT:ET.ALG:REX. The 100 Réis, corresponding to the tostão, were minted from 1864 to 1889, with a 20 mm module, 2.50 g weight and the same royal inscription. These types are catalogued in the Alberto Gomes groups L1.08.xx (50 Réis) and L1.09.xx (100 Réis), as well as in the World Coins catalog (KM#506 and KM#510), reflecting the consistent silver typology of 19th‑century Portuguese coinage.
