50 Réis and 100 Réis Coins of King Carlos I (1889‑1908)

The 50 Réis and 100 Réis coins of King Carlos I (1889‑1908) include silver and cupronickel issues minted between 1890 and 1900. The 50 Réis exist only in 1893 (silver) and 1900 (cupronickel), while the 100 Réis appear in silver from 1890 to 1898 (KM#531, C1.06.xx) and in cupronickel only in 1900. The 1900 cupronickel issues include die varieties discovered in 2024 by Portugal Moedas, marked by incuse initials of the engraver within the stars beside the date. These types are catalogued in the Alberto Gomes groups C1.04.xx, C1.05.xx, C1.06.xx and C1.07.xx and listed in World Coins (KM#536, KM#545, KM#546).
