Portugal, silver coin, anepigraphic vintém from the reign of King João V (1706–1750), a rare variant featuring an armillary sphere between dots. The vintém, or 20 réis, displays on the obverse a medium-sized armillary sphere topped by a pearl. The zodiac begins on the right, above the Tropic of Cancer, and ends on the left, above the Tropic of Capricorn. The armillary sphere is supported by a tripod base with a central sphere. This variant is listed only in the most recent edition of the Alberto Gomes catalogue — 7th edition, 2021 — under the code J5.41.02a, with the designation "Equador entre pontos" ("Equator between dots"). The Great History of the Portuguese Escudo, by António Miguel Trigueiro, is a work dedicated to the historical and numismatic study of the Portuguese currency during the period when the escudo served as the national monetary unit.

This is a silver two-pataca coin, “High Crown” variety, listed in the World Coins Brazil catalog under number KM#207.2. The coin was issued during the reign of Queen Maria I for circulation in the then colony of Brazil. Maria I and Peter III (1777–1786) ruled jointly; Queen Maria I, known as “The Pious,” was the twenty-seventh monarch of Portugal. Born in 1734, she reigned from 1777 until her death in 1816 and was married to King Peter III.
