Obverse Description:

The obverse of the 5 Escudos Angola banknote, dated January 1, 1921, features on the left the portrait of Francisco de Oliveira Chamiço, engraved in the characteristic style of Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., with fine lines and dense shading. At the bottom centre appears the Coat of Arms of Portugal, framed by ornamental elements that reinforce the institutional character of the issue. On the right is the traditional steamship seal — the Steamship Seal, here in Type III — a symbol associated with the Banco Nacional Ultramarino and its overseas operations.
