The coins of King Manuel II (1908-1910) correspond to the final reign of the Portuguese monarchy. Manuel II, known as “The Exiled”, was born in 1889 and became the thirty‑fifth and last King of Portugal following the regicide of 1908. His short reign, marked by political instability, ended with the proclamation of the Republic on October 5th, 1910, forcing the monarch into permanent exile. The coinage of this period returned to Latin inscriptions, featuring the legend EMANVEL • II • PORTVG: ET • ALGARB: REX, and was issued exclusively in bronze and silver, reflecting early 20th‑century minting and symbolizing the closing chapter of the Portuguese monarchy.
