The design was created by João Abel Manta, with sculptural execution by the artist Norte de Almeida. On this issue, the edge inscription reads: "CXXV ANIVERSÁRIO DO BANCO DE PORTUGAL", and there are known variants with the inscription in normal and inverted orientations.
