DUCAL Coin or Vintém – 20 Réis Copper Coin from 1833, Loios Series of Queen Maria II – Porto, Loios Mint – World Coins Portugal KM#400. The "DUCAL" 20 réis copper coin, dated 1833, belongs to the coin series known as the "Loios", minted during the Siege of Porto. This issue was produced at a provisional mint set up in the former Convent of Santo Elói, located in Largo dos Loios. The Ducal (20 réis) did enter circulation, as did the patacos (40 réis) of the same series. The Ducal is considered one of the rarest coins of the Loios series, which explains its scarcity in the numismatic market. The exact number of coins minted and released into circulation remains unknown. These 20 réis, popularly referred to as "Ducal", received this name mainly due to the crown symbol depicted at the center of the coin, as well as its visual design and regal symbolism. The word "Ducal" means relating or belonging to a duke, derived from the Latin ducālis.
