Unpublished silver Half Tostão 1641 of King João IV 1640-1656, ✤IOANNES IIII DG REX.PO / ✤IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, the only coin I know with the obverse shields cornered by dots topped by a Fleur-de-Lis. I do not recall seeing this variant classified or mentioned in any auction or catalogue to date; in my view, this is the first known specimen to be documented.

João IV, nicknamed "The Restorer", was the twenty-second King of Portugal, born in 1604 and reigned Portugal from 1640 until his death in 1656. His wife was Dona Luísa Francisca de Gusmão.
