Coin issued under Decree No. 35,754 of July 19, 1946, intended for circulation in the colony of Portuguese Timor, which corresponds to present-day Timor-Leste during the period it was a Portuguese colony (1596–1975). For much of that time, Portugal shared sovereignty over the island of Timor with the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia.
