The 1958 10 Centavos bronze coin issued for the Portuguese Overseas Territory of Timor belongs to the only mintage bearing this date, struck at the Lisbon Mint under Decree No. 41 428 of December 6, 1957. Listed as KM#10 in World Coins and 04.01 in the 2006, 2013 and 2021 editions of the Alberto Gomes catalogue, it forms part of the 4th group of Timor colonial issues.
Struck in bronze (Cu 940 – Zn 60), the coin features an 18 mm diameter, 2 g weight, plain edge, medal alignment (↑↓) and a rim composed of a smooth circle followed by arched ornaments. The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Portuguese Colony of Timor, surrounded by the legend TIMOR ✤✥✤ 1958 ✤✥✤, while the reverse shows the denomination “10 CENTAVOS”, encircled by the legend REPÚBLICA • PORTUGUESA ❁.
The 1958 mintage amounted to 1,000,000 pieces, making it one of the most representative colonial issues from the late period of Portuguese administration in Timor.
