Timor coin 20 Avos 1945 Alpaca, 20 Avos 1945 Nickel brass Former Portuguese Colony of Timor, World Coins Timor KM#6. Coin issued under Decree No. 35,754 of July 19, 1946, intended for circulation in the colony of Portuguese Timor, which corresponds to present-day Timor-Leste during the period it was a Portuguese colony (1596–1975). For much of that time, Portugal shared sovereignty over the island of Timor with the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia. Additionally, Portugal also maintained control over the island of Flores, in the Sunda archipelago, located near Timor and administratively subject to it.

10 Avos bronze coin dated 1948 from the former Portuguese Colony of Timor, catalogued as KM#5 in World Coins and as 01.03 in the 2006, 2013 and 2021 editions of the Alberto Gomes catalogue. Issued under the Portuguese Republic (1910–1974) within the Escudo monetary system, it was struck at the Lisbon Mint with a mintage of 500,000 pieces. The obverse features the Portuguese shield with the legend “REPVBLICA PORTVGVESA ✤1948✤”, while the reverse displays the denomination “10 AVOS” framed by olive branches and the legend “COLONIA DE TIMOR”.
