Coin issued under Decree No. 35,754 of July 19, 1946, intended for circulation in the colony of Portuguese Timor, which corresponds to present-day Timor-Leste during the period it was a Portuguese colony (1596–1975). For much of that time, Portugal shared sovereignty over the island of Timor with the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia. Additionally, Portugal also maintained control over the island of Flores, in the Sunda archipelago, located near Timor and administratively subject to it.
