Angola – 1 to 20 Centavos Coins

The 1 to 20 centavos coins of Angola form the foundation of the colonial monetary system during the early twentieth century under Portuguese administration. Minted between 1921 and 1928 in bronze and alpaca, these issues reflect the adaptation of Portuguese coinage to the economic needs of the territory while preserving the iconography and production standards of the Republican period. They include denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 centavos, corresponding to 1, 2, 1 macuta, 2 macutas and 4 macutas according to the monetary equivalence in force at the time. This group represents an important numismatic heritage, illustrating everyday circulation, monetary reforms and the economic development of Angola as a Portuguese colony.
