Illustrated with drawings and reproductions of coins, the book includes explanations about metal alloys, chronological classification and a glossary of terms, making it a useful resource for both beginners and experienced collectors interested in Portuguese numismatics.

The present copy contains an elegant luxury binding with leather spine and corners, gilt top edge with gold lettering, and preserving the original printed wrappers.

he Book of the Coins of Portugal 1984–1985, by J. Ferraro Vaz in collaboration with Javier Salgado, represents the first edition of the author’s numismatic catalogue produced jointly with this researcher. The work systematically presents Portuguese coinage from the foundation of the nation in 1128 to contemporary times, also including the coin issues of the former Portuguese colonies.

Alongside the standard red-cover edition, a special limited edition of approximately 170 copies was also published in the same year. This variant is distinguished by its beige-coloured cover and by the use of higher-quality, heavier paper, also beige-toned throughout the entire text block.

Although the editorial content remains identical to the regular edition, this version differs in its presentation and limited print run, making it considerably less common on the numismatic and antiquarian book market. As such, it is particularly sought after by collectors of Portuguese numismatic bibliography.
