The coins of the Portuguese Republic include all the different Monetary Systems that circulated in Portugal, these being issued in escudos during their 92 years of existence. The Escudo was the portuguese currency unit from the establishment of the Republic until its disappearance with accession to the single European currency in 2002, the year in which our national currencies began to circulate with a common standard to the European Union, with its own national design obverse. and reverse obligatorily common to the entire EU and accepted in all acceding countries.
